2 cups plain Greek yogurt (non-fat or 2% work best)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Caramelize the Onions. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the diced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 20 to 25 minutes until the onions are soft and deep golden brown. If they start to stick, add a splash of water to the pan.
Step 2: Cool the Onions. Once the onions are caramelized, remove the skillet from the heat. It is important to let the onions cool to room temperature before mixing them with the yogurt to prevent the dip from becoming too runny.
Step 3: Combine Ingredients. In a medium mixing bowl, add the Greek yogurt, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce if using. Whisk everything together until the base is smooth and well-combined.
Step 4: Fold in the Onions. Add the cooled caramelized onions to the yogurt mixture. Use a spatula to gently fold the onions into the yogurt so they are evenly distributed throughout the dip.
Step 5: Chill and Serve. For the best flavor, cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together. Garnish with fresh chives right before serving.
